BLACK TRIANGLES |

The existence of unidentifiable triangular "aircraft" cannot be denied - whatever they are and wherever they come from - there have been too many reliable sightings of such craft and indisputable evidence has been captured on video tape. Many people are of the opinion that these mysterious craft are of top-secret U.S. military origin but the sightings of these objects may go back to the days when even the most rudimentary aircraft were only just being developed. |
|
| For instance, at Chisbury in Wiltshire (England) on 8th April 1912, Charles Tilden Smith observed two dark triangular objects cast shadows onto the clouds overhead. Although the clouds were moving rapidly the "shadows" remained stationary and the objects seemed to be very large. The sighting lasted in excess of thirty minutes and because of the angle and the changing position of the Sun it became apparent that there must have been an additional light source for the "shadows" to remain stationary. | |

On 29th June 1954, a Boeing Stratocruiser (the Centaurus, flying at 19,000 feet, speed 230 knots) was flying from New York en route to Newfoundland when, over the sea off the coast of Labrador, a large "metallic" object emerged from a gap in the clouds - this object was circled by six smaller objects. The pilot, Captain James Howard, sketched the larger object which seemed to change form, However, in a BBC interview he finally described it as a large triangle. The co-pilot, Lee Boyd, contacted Ground Control and told them, "We are not alone". "We know", was the reply from Ground Control. "What is it?" Boyd asked. "We don't know but we have scrambled a Sabre from Goose Bay to investigate", - was Ground Control's response. The UFO flew along with the stratocruiser at a distance of about 3 miles until the Sabre jet aircraft approached - at this the smaller UFOs lined up and, one by one, merged into the larger object. When the Sabre reached the UFO, it vanished. The whole event was witnessed by the crew and 30 passengers. |

| On 27th December 1980, a close encounter with a triangular UFO occurred at a U.S. Air Force base in Suffolk (U.K.). This event became one of the most researched and discussed UFO incidents in the history of UFOlogy. Taking place over two nights, it involved the sighting (and actual touching) of a triangular UFO in Rendlesham Forest - details are available on this web site - see "Rendlesham". | |

On 5th February 1992, dozens of witnesses reported a gigantic triangular craft flying along the Susquehanna Valley in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. The UFO, showing white lights, was observed to move from the north to the south from Sunbury across Williamsport between 6-00 and 7-00p.m. , returning at 8-00p.m. and staying until 9-30p.m. It was described as being very large - up to 600 feet across and it height from the ground varied from 50 to 500 feet. The UFO emitted a "deep rumbling" sound and eventually disappeared to the south of Williamsport. One explanation for the events was a secret airborne re-fuelling exercise but the military denied that any aircraft were in the vicinity at the time. |

On 13TH March 1997, a most spectacular UFO sighting occurred in the skies over Phoenix , Arizona. Witnessed by thousands (possibly tens of thousands) of people, a" formation of lights" was observed to fly from the Las Vegas area of Nevada and pass over Phoenix. Eye witness accounts include a description of a triangular craft of immense proportions - this gigantic UFO was seen over Phoenix between 8-30 and 8-45 p.m. and witnesses estimated its size to be between one and a half to two miles wide. Another large triangular craft was observed over Thunderbird Road (Phoenix) at 10-45 p.m. A family, driving along towards Phoenix from the south along interstate 10 at 80 m.p.h., reported that one of these objects remained above them for approximately two minutes. The "Phoenix Lights" incident is to be covered in more detail on this web site soon. |

But probably the most astounding series of events involving "Black Triangles" happened not in the U.S. but in Europe - to be more specific in the skies over Belgium. Beginning in November 1989, Belgian airspace had been violated on a number of occasions, the Belgian Authorities receiving thousands of reports of triangular UFOs. Indeed in December 1989, the Royal Belgian Air Force (RBAF) was contacted by hundreds of terrified citizens reporting a triangular craft with a light at each corner. This caused the RBAF to agree that, with co-ordination at ground level involving the assistance of the Police and local UFO research groups etc., the RBAF would try to track and intercept any "triangle" that put in an appearance. On at least two occasions the RBAF scrambled F-16s to intercept craft invading Belgian airspace but despite having a top speed in excess of 2,000 km/h. the F-16s arrived too late to discover anything. The situation had become so serious that the Belgian Air Ministry formulated plans to deal with any future UFOs which violated Belgian air space. It was decided that a squadron of F-16s would be prepared and ready to be scrambled in the event of a UFO sighting being confirmed by the local police or being picked up by radar. What was soon to happen would stretch the Belgian air defenses to the limit and beyond - the complex network of radar systems and jet fighters was unable to cope with the events of 30th March 1990. At approximately 11-00 p.m. an excited witness called the radar station on the outskirts of Brussels. The man reported seeing a triangular UFO hovering in the night skies - the craft had a very bright light at each of its corners and ,as it was a clear night, there was no doubt in the witnesses mind as to what he was observing. The master controller at the radar station telephoned the local police station and an officer rushed outside to see if the object was visible. Extremely excited, the police officer quickly confirmed the sighting but by now the UFO had been detected by ground based radar. Immediately the RBAF scrambled two F-16s and from a distance of 12km they managed to get a "lock on" to the UFO. for the first time. If the pilots had decided to launch a missile whilst "locked on", they would probably have hit their target but the UFO, still out of visual range of the F-16s, was able to negate the lock on - almost as though it had "shrugged it off". Over the next several minutes the pilots managed to lock on to the triangle six times - three of them at the same time. Any known aircraft could not have evaded two F-16s with "locked on missiles" but the pilots (experienced men who were amongst NATO's best) did not get a chance to launch one missile. |

According
to one of the pilots: "The craft was jumping around the radar screen like a dancing bee". The UFO proceeded to amaze the pilots by accelerating, in less than a second, from 280 km/h to 1800 km/h whilst descending from an altitude of 3 km to 1.7 km - and coming to a dead stop. The G-Force aboard the triangular craft would have been far beyond those which any human being could expect to survive - about 40G or 40 times the force of gravity. The object then began to move again and dropped to just 200 metres above the suburbs of Brussels - disappearing from radar as it crossed over the city. |

Soon there were around 70 F-16s in the skies over Belgium, desperately trying to seek out the unidentified triangular craft - to no avail. Thousands of people on the ground were eyewitnesses to these events - there were 3,000 telephone calls to police stations, military establishments, radio and television stations. Also, evidence of the nights events were recorded by civilians and television crews on video and film. Obviously, whilst events were unfolding, people were beginning to ask questions - what are these craft that are able to breech NATO's air defense canopy with such ease? |

General Wilfried de Brouwer (RBAF) described the events as "extraordinary" and later remarked: "There are not many options left; you could refer to an extraterrestrial vehicle as an option that should not be excluded". |

On the same night that the triangular craft caused chaos in the skies over Belgium, hundreds of reports were made of a similar craft by residents of the U.K. These sightings were made by all sorts of people including police officers and an RAF officer who described the craft making repeated sweeps of the ground with some sort of search beam - he estimated the craft to be about the size of a Hercules transport plane. A family in Staffordshire experienced a large triangular craft making a deep humming sound, hovering over their house. It was alleged in early 2001 that the British Government had placed a "D-Notice" on the reporting of Black Triangles - see the Great Britain page on this site. |

Since the sightings of Black Triangles in Belgium, the craft have not "gone away". There have been numerous reports from all over the world. These reports usually describe a large (sometimes very large) dark/black triangle with an extremely bright light on each corner and sometimes including a central pulsating light on the underside.. They are usually quiet but on occasions a "humming sound" is audible and reports have included a beam emanating from the craft - seeming to "sweep" the ground. There is an excellent web group which encourages the reporting of and informed discussion about Black Triangles - see this site's links page. |

Professor Leon Brenig actually video recorded a Black Triangle sighting. He also studied 800 reported sightings and thought that an extraterrestrial craft was not out of the question. He was unaware, however, that the US Defense Intelligence Agency was very interested in his findings. Click on photo for larger size |

"It isn't just the U.S. government which has kept quiet about alien visits. It would be arrogant of an American like myself to assume that E.T.s would only choose to visit my country. Indeed, I've heard convincing stories about governments all over the world that know of alien visits - including the British government. Not all governments are anxious to keep their findings quiet. The Belgians have admitted that aliens may be out there and have released information about sightings that cannot be explained away as military planes, weather phenomena and so on". Edgar Mitchell, U.S. Astronaut/trained scientist. (25th October 1998) |
